Wake Effects: The New Kid In Town
2016 marked a lot of firsts here at Wake Effects. We added a new chapter to our book by starting an Offshore Powerboat Race Team with rookie driver Rusty Rahm and veteran throttleman Jeff Harris. Through countless hours of training and practice in a new boat with more power than any boat Rahm had ever driven, we manage to pull off what seemed to be a dream come true. If it weren’t for the help of Randy Scism, Bob Bull, Gene Greber and the rest of the CMS Offshore Race Team who ran a sister-ship with us all season, who knows how the season would have turned out. These gentleman poured out tons of world champion knowledge to our driver and crew. Not only did they know the boat like the back of their hands, they knew the courses and the game plans at every venue. Though you can have all the knowledge, power, performance and time in the world, it came down to the two guys in the boat. Rusty Rahm and Jeff Harris battled tooth and nail in every race, there was no such thing as a “give me” race in the Super Boat International Unlimited Class. Through hard work and veins filled with ice, Rusty Rahm and Jeff Harris managed to take our 48ft MTI catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 1650 engines to victory, bringing home a Florida Points Championship,National Championship, and World Championship. Rusty Rahm also managed to take home Rookie of the Year and a Triple Crown trophy back home to Lake of the Ozarks. It was surreal to see the powerboat community show the support that they did for our new race team and we look forward to what the years of racing bring our way. If you missed out on watching the the 36th Annual Key West Super Boat World Championships, no worries, NBC Sports will be playing all three race days on March 19th (race day 1), March 25th (race day 2) and April 2nd (race day 3).
